Documentary Includes Never-Before-Seen Footage of the Unrehearsed Sessions Including “Erie Canal” and “Jacob’s Ladder”
NASHVILLE – April 27, 2006 – More than three decades since Bruce Springsteen rocked & rolled his way to worldwide fame, he heads back in to the studio for an intimate recording of century-old folk songs and pays tribute to folk legend Pete Seeger on his twenty-first album, We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. CMT will debut a one-hour documentary special BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: THE SEEGER SESSIONS on Friday, May 5 at 9-10 p.m. ET, featuring content from Springsteen’s new Dual Disc release along with never-before-seen footage including complete performances of “Erie Canal” and “Jacob’s Ladder.”
“From his innate talent to his extraordinary songwriting ability, Bruce Springsteen is a legend in many genres and we’re proud to present such an intimate exclusive look at his Seeger recording sessions,” said Chris Parr, vice president music programming and talent relations, CMT.
The documentary follows Springsteen into his New Jersey farmhouse where he and an ensemble of musicians gather unrehearsed to create a live album featuring Pete Seeger’s folk melodies as interpreted by Springsteen. Having long credited his musical origins to folk tradition, Springsteen brought together a range of traditional acoustic instruments – banjo, accordion, horns and violin, among others – to record American standards such as “John Henry” and “Shenandoah.”
