NASHVILLE – November 1, 2016 – Nashville’s future female power players were on display today as CMT presented its fourth annual “Next Women of Country” showcase. “Next Women” alum filled the room in a united stand to celebrate their unique artistry, with inspiring and commanding performances by Aubrie Sellers, Lauren Alaina, Lindsay Ell, Luci Silvas, Maddie & Tae, Maggie Rose, Margo Price, Mickey Guyton, RaeLynn and Tara Thompson.
As one of the early members of the CMT franchise, award-winning singer-songwriter Brandy Clark was honored with the inaugural “Impact Award” for her outstanding achievements and contributions to females in the industry. She opened the show with “Three Kids No Husband,” and remained as honorary co-host for the event.
One of country music’s most notable female voices and champion of women Martina McBride joined the stage as a surprise guest to announce she would extend her Love Unleashed Tour in 2017, partnering with CMT for its yearly all-female tour. The third annual Next Women of Country Tour includes special guest Lauren Alaina.
Last week, CMT revealed the newest members of its “Next Women of Country” franchise, with the addition of Caitlyn Smith, Jamie Lynn Spears, Jillian Jacqueline, Kree Harrison, Logan Brill, Lucie Silvas, Maggie Rose, Margo Price, Post Monroe and Runaway June.
CMT launched its “Next Women of Country” campaign four years ago as response to the male-dominated trend in the format. Using “Next Women” as a launching pad, several alumnae have achieved groundbreaking commercial and critical success, including 2015 alum Maren Morris, whose debut album HERO entered the country charts at No. 1. Kelsea Ballerini (class of 2014) broke records with three No. 1 hits from her debut album, and Kacey Musgraves (inaugural class of 2013) firmly established her place with a slew of critical praise and awards, garnering a Grammy for Best Country Album for Same Trailer Different Park.
The Next Women artists attending the event were treated to a handful of specially crafted gifts from artisans including Hunker Bag Co. (hunkerbagco.com) and L George Designs (lgeorgedesigns.com), while hair, makeup and gift bags were provided by The Dry House (thedryhousenashville.com).
