RANDY TRAVIS AND JOSH TURNER CELEBRATE THEIR MUSICAL ROOTS IN “CMT CROSS COUNTRY” PREMIERING AUGUST 11 AT 10 PM ET/PT
NASHVILLE – JULY 12, 2006 – The rich tradition of country music is showcased in the new performance series, CMT CROSS COUNTRY, where two country music artists share their music and discover the country roots they have in common. In the first one-hour episode, legend Randy Travis and newcomer Josh Turner take the stage to perform their biggest hits and favorite songs. CMT CROSS COUNTRY premieres Friday, August 11 at 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Taped in front of a live audience in Nashville, CMT CROSS COUNTRY features songs performed by both artists, including “Three Wooden Crosses,” “Your Man,” “Forever And Ever Amen” and “Long Black Train.” Behind the scenes footage and personal conversations between Travis and Turner are also documented.
In the late 1980s, Randy Travis opened the floodgates for the new traditionalist movement in country music. His major label album debut, Storms of Life, was released in 1986 and went on to sell more than four million copies. With 22 No.1 hits, six No. 1 albums, five Grammy Awards, six CMA Awards, nine ACM Awards, 10 AMA Awards, seven Dove Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Travis has secured his place in country music history. In 2000, Travis released his first of several recent gospel albums that once again broke standards and opened doors in country music. The 2003 hit single “Three Wooden Crosses,” became the first song released on a gospel music label to ever reach No. 1 on the country music charts. Travis is currently touring the U.S. and writing material for an all new country album.
Josh Turner began his meteoric rise to fame when the self-penned, title track off of his debut album Long Black Train grabbed the attention of fans across the country. The media instantly began to compare his voice to the likes of Johnny Cash, George Jones and Randy Travis. Just two years later, Turner’s sophomore album Your Man made its debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. The title track spent two weeks at No. 1 on the country radio charts and the album was certified gold in less than a month and is rapidly approaching platinum.
