Dwight Yoakam to Pay Tribute to Legendary Friend and Mentor Buck Owens


NASHVILLE – April 7, 2006 – The 2006 CMT MUSIC AWARDS, premiering live from Nashville on Monday, April 10 at 8 p.m., ET* packs the lineup with a star-studded list of presenters including Wynonna, Kenny Rogers, Lisa Rinna (“Dancing With the Stars”), Kid Rock, Martina McBride, Jewel, Kelly Preston (“Sky High”), Caroline Rhea (“The Biggest Loser”), Sela Ward (“House”), Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, Billy Currington, Miranda Lambert, John Corbett, Blake Shelton, Josh Turner, Jack Ingram, Miss America 2006 Jennifer Berry, Professional Bull Riding star Ty Murray, The Wreckers (Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp) and newcomer Ashley Monroe.

In addition, Dwight Yoakam will pay tribute to honor his late friend and mentor, the legendary Buck Owens. Yoakam’s music often captured the Bakersfield flavor that Owens made famous, and the pair partnered to create the 1988 duet “Streets of Bakersfield.”

   The 2006 CMT MUSIC AWARDS, hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, is country music’s only fan-voted awards show. Celebrating its fifth year, the CMT MUSIC AWARDS honors country music’s elite for the year’s most outstanding videos and artists. An extraordinary list of performances will include Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, Gretchen Wilson, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Brooks & Dunn and Trace Adkins.

Live voting at CMT.com will determine the night’s big winners. Fans can vote online at CMT.com or via text message during the live telecast to determine Video of the Year. In addition, fans all over the world can catch the live simulcast of the 2006 CMT MUSIC AWARDS online at CMT.com.
