NASHVILLE – March 10, 2006 – CMT kicks off the 2006 CMT MUSIC AWARDS with a free block party country music fans can’t afford to miss on Monday, April 10 beginning at 3:30 p.m., CT in downtown Nashville. Crowd favorites Jason Aldean, Little Big Town and Van Zant jumpstart CMT’s fifth annual awards show with live performances at the 2006 CMT MUSIC AWARDS BLOCK PARTY, presented by Nashville Scene and Budweiser. 

Not attending the awards show? Experience the fun and excitement of the CMT MUSIC AWARDS first-hand with live performances, surprise guests and prizes, including a chance to be part of the televised audience for the live CMT Music Awards Pre-Party hosted by CMT’s Lance Smith. Nashville’s hippest Block Party will take place in the heart of downtown Nashville on Broadway, between First and Second Avenues, across from the Hard Rock Café. Admission is free and Hard Rock will have food and beverages for sale.

Tickets will be distributed for a chance to win prizes, including seats to the live 2006 CMT MUSIC AWARDS. The lucky winners will get VIP treatment complete with tickets and transportation from the Block Party to the main show with artists Little Big Town or Van Zant.
CMT Cross Country, CMT’s 53-foot promotional truck and trailer, will be on site offering fun and prizes, along with a chance for fans to karaoke along to some of their all-time favorite country songs. Ben Jones, who played “Cooter” on the hit series “The Dukes of Hazzard,” will be on hand with the beloved General Lee to meet guests and sign autographs. 

As part of CMT’s live coverage leading into the awards, the Block Party festivities will be featured on the 2006 CMT MUSIC AWARDS PRE-PARTY, premiering live on Monday, April 10 at 6:30-8:00 PM, ET/PT.* Immediately following the pre-party, country’s biggest stars will perform on the 2006 CMT MUSIC AWARDS ? Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Trace Adkins, Gretchen Wilson, Brooks & Dunn, Sugarland, and others soon to be announced. Jeff Foxworthy returns as host.
